Museums and galleries across the UK and Europe have joined forces for the first ever #MuseumWeek, a seven-day event playing out on Twitter that will aim to virtually connect the social network’s users to artwork, culture, history and science.

Kicking off on 24 March, fans joining in have been promised “direct and unparallelled access to some of Europe’s leading museums and the people behind them in 140-characters bursts.”

By using Twitter to ask a question of Surrey Heath Museum on @SurreyHeathMuse, and using the #MuseumWeek hastag, Surrey Heath says its Museum,

#MuseumWeek will give Surrey Heath residents and users across the world direct contact with the museum’s team of experts and a behind-the-scenes look at their work in bite-size 140-character bursts.

The week aims to be a great new and interesting insight into artwork, culture and history in a way that lets social media users interact and participate in.
